How to Pray (Even if you have never tried)

Prayer doesn’t have to be long, fancy, or perfect.
It’s just a real conversation with God—
and the best part? He’s already listening.

Here’s a simple way to start:

1. Begin with “Thank You”

Before you ask “Can You?”, start with “Thank You.”
Gratitude shifts your focus. It reminds you that God’s already been faithful—and He’s still good, even now.

📖 “Enter His gates with thanksgiving…” —Psalm 100:4
📖 “Give thanks in all circumstances…” —1 Thessalonians 5:18

You don’t have to thank Him for everything—but you can thank Him in everything.

2. Be Honest

God doesn’t need you to sound spiritual. He wants you to be real.
Bring your highs, your lows, your doubts, and your questions.

📖 “How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever?” —Psalm 13:1
📖 “Pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” —Psalm 62:8

God meets you where you really are, not where you pretend to be.

3. Ask Boldly

God cares about every single detail. Whether it’s something small or overwhelming—ask Him. He invites you to.

📖 “Give us today our daily bread.” —Matthew 6:11
📖 “You do not have because you do not ask.” —James 4:2

You don’t have to tiptoe- He actually wants to hear from you.

4. Keep Coming Back

Some days, prayer feels powerful. Other days, it feels quiet.
Either way—keep showing up. Keep the conversation going.

📖 “Pray without ceasing.” —1 Thessalonians 5:17
📖 “Ask… seek… knock…” —Luke 11:9

Prayer grows not by performance, but by persistence.

Try This Prayer Today

You don’t need fancy words to pray.
You don’t need to sound spiritual.
You just need to be you.

Here’s a simple prayer you can try—especially if you’re not sure where to start:

“God, thank You for loving me and never giving up on me.”
Start with gratitude. Even if life’s a mess right now, saying “thank you” helps you remember God hasn’t walked away.

“I’m tired, but I trust You.”
Be honest. If you’re worn out, stressed, or unsure—say that. God isn’t scared of your feelings.

“Here’s what I need today…”
Talk about what’s on your mind. Big stuff. Small stuff. Whatever’s weighing on you—just say it.

“Help me follow You. Amen.”
End by asking for help. You don’t have to figure everything out. You just have to take the next step with Him.
